STARBUCK -- Oliver Kermit Svenning, 82, of rural Glenwood died Wednesday at his home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood and for one hour prior to the service at the church. He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Starbuck to Martin and Marie (Aal) Svenning. He grew up on a farm in Minnewaska Township and was involved in its operation. He attended the Reno country school and continued at District 33 in Glenwood. On Nov. 3, 1951, he married Viola Pederson in Miltona. They purchased a farm and raised their family there. In 1965, they moved to the family farm, where they raised dairy cattle and hogs. She died in 1977, and he sold the farm to his son a few years later. On Jan. 2, 1982, he married Ardith "Dody" Seeger Cooley in Starbuck. He is survived by his wife of Glenwood; his children: LaVonne (and Harold) Pauna of Spokane, Wash., Curtis (and Elaine) of Glenwood, Susan (and Ross) Wilson of Glenwood, Brenda (and Jim) Steen of Hanover; stepchildren: Steven (and Shelli) Cooley of New Hope, Laura Fosler of Golden Valley, Deb (and Darwin) Nygaard of Farwell and Duane (and Sandra) Cooley of Glenwood; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife and one sister. | |
