Philip C Gustafson, 96, of Linwood, passed away Thursday at home. Born in Fresno, California he had lived in Linwood for over 40 years.

He graduated from Caruthers Union High School, Fresno, California. He attended Penn State College, William & Mary College, and Foothill College, Los Altos, California.

Philip was a retired Navy pilot who served prior to and during World War II, Battle of Midway, Coral Sea, and flew escort duty aboard the USS Vincennes for the launching of the Gen. Doolittle Raiders en route to Tokyo, Japan. He was also a team member of Project Research Aviation Medicine (RAM).

He was employed in the quality control department at RCA, Moorestown, Federal Electric Field Service Co., Paramus, and Lockheed Missile & Space Co., Sunnyvale, California. He was also a project manager at the FAA Tech Center in Pomona.

He held membership in the Retired Officers Association (MOA), and was a charter member of the South Jersey Chapter. He was also a member of the Palo Alto Roller Lodge #346 F&AM, Palo Alto, California, Silver Eagles Association, the US Navy Memorial Foundation, and the American-Swedish Historical Museum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a past charter member of the Atlantic County Transportation Authority (ACTA).

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Elaine (nee Shaner); a daughter, Sharon Amann; grandchildren Joseph and Laura Amann; a brother, John Gustafson and his wife, Loretta and many nieces and nephews.
