Elaine Gustafson f. Shaner 1921–2017

Elaine S. Gustafson, age 95, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 after suffering from a fall. She was born on September 8, 1921 in Ventnor, NJ to Frank Shaner and Edna Middleton Shaner.

After graduating from Atlantic City High School, she attended Moore College of Art, and worked as an engineering draftswoman. Later, she worked as a Medical Librarian in hospitals in Atlantic County, and in California. An avid historian and geneologist, she was a longtime member of the DAR, and the Atlantic County Historical Society, as well as the Colonial Dames. She was a strong, independent woman, and also a talented artist who exhibited many oils and watercolors of South Jersey in state and county art shows and local galleries.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Sharon Amann, of Little Silver, NJ, and her grandchildren, Joseph Walter Amann, of Santa Monica, CA, and Laura Amann-Storm (Dr. Timothy Storm), and great-grandchild, Hudson Storm, all of Philadelphia, Pa. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Elmer, of Margate, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Philip Carl Gustafson, in 2013, and by her sisters, Patricia Jackson, of New Hampshire, and Marjorie Brown, of Margate.
