MARBLEHEAD -- Harold T. Hokanson, 68, a retired engineer, died Tuesday in Salem Hospital after an illness of several months.
Born in Anaconda, Mont., Mr. Hokanson lived in Marblehead from 1954-60 and then returned to live in the town in 1968.
He was a graduate of Washington State University, where he received a degree in electrical engineering in 1939.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific as a training instructor on B-29 bomber fire control systems. During that assignment, he held the record for most hours aloft in the B-29.
During the Korean War, he served in the Western Pacific as part of an intelligence team studying the performance of the world's first combat jet.
Mr. Hokanson worked in General Electric Co.'s Lynn plant as a jet engine product engineer and manager. His work on various aviation and aerospace products took him all over the world.
He retired in 1981 after 41 years with the company. After his retirement, he ran a charter business on his 40-foot trawler, Seaventure.
He was an active member of the Boston Yacht Club of Marblehead. In February, the club honored him by naming their wardroom in his honor.
Mr. Hokanson leaves his wife, Wardine M. (Geissler); two sons, Dean T. of Hartford, Conn., and Mark R. Hokanson of Sunapee, N.H.; a daughter, Gail H. Allyn of Morristown, N.J.; a brother, Ragnar V. Hokanson of Oregon City, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Clifton Lutheran Church, Marblehead. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery.
